Struggling to write captions? Here are some tips!

DONT OVER-THINK IT
I think a lot of people over-think their captions, putting pressure on whether its funny, or interesting, or if they're message is clear. However, I think this pressure can sometimes over-complicate it. Forget the caption and take it back to the beginning; what was the purpose of the image, of the piece of content, what is your goal and how does it apply to your strategy? Allow that to guide you in your writing.

REMOVE IT FROM SOCIAL MEDIA
Again, I think sometimes trying to write captions on the spot can add pressure. If you design outside of the social platform, for the social platform, the caption should come naturally. If you're building a strategy and planning ahead of time, the on-the-spot pressure won't be there.

THINK BIG PICTURE AND WORK IT DOWN
Still struggling? Write everything down you want to say about the piece of content, no matter how long or messy it looks. Then clean it up and work it down to create the caption. Sometimes word-vomiting all over a page and dwindling it down can create some real magic.

TELL THE STORY
When in doubt, keep it simple. Just narrate what's happening in the image or create a clean and simple call-to-action. Like mentioned before, not every caption has to be complicated or funny - it can be as simple as telling your followers exactly what's going on in the image.

COLLABORATE
Collaborations can make for a series of content pieces, all with easy captions to write. You collaborate with an influencer, you repost their content or work with them to write for you. You call them out in the caption or narrate the project you're working on together.

LEAVE IT ALONE
Take a break, walk away for the day, and come back to it tomorrow. Sometimes taking a little writing break is all you need to clear your head and write your captions.

DELEGATE
If all else fails, delegate the task to someone else. Hire a copywriter or social media manager who can do these little tasks for you. Sometimes bringing in a new person for these tasks can give your blog, website and social the boost it needs.

I offer writing packages for those looking for some help with your writing, social planning, and blogging. If you're ready to delegate these tasks to a professional, let's chat!
